In today’s fast moving marketing and advertising industries, training and professional development have never been more important. thinkLA helps the community stay ahead of the game by offering a variety of programs that focus on knowledge building:

AdU

The perfect course for junior-level employees, professors and college students, AdU gives a broad introduction to the various departments within an advertising agency. The full program consists of eight classes designed to give a view of the "Big Picture":

  • Account Planning
  • Creative
  • Account Management
  • Media Planning & Buying
  • Interactive
  • Direct Marketing
  • Multicultural Marketing
  • Integrated Marketing

This training is provided in an environment that is based on practical knowledge and taught by professionals who hold senior management positions at various companies throughout the industry.

AdU is appropriate for entry-level agency employees and also entry-level sales employees seeking a broader understanding of the agency and how its various departments work in collaboration. Professors and college students will find this class beneficial as well and may attend at a discounted rate.


AdU Grad

As industry employees develop their talent, they're promoted, eventually becoming managers responsible for the recruitment, performance, and development of others. But many companies do not have the resources to provide the training these talented people need to become great managers.

thinkLA's AdU Graduate Program provides that training.

We provide talented mid-level professionals across all departments with the knowledge and tools they need to recruit and develop additional talented people for their companies. The program consists of six classes designed to strengthen overall management skills:

  • Management 101
  • Understanding Big Picture Aspects of the Company
  • Interviewing Skills
  • Giving Feedback/Performance Evaluations and How to Deal with Problem Employees
  • Managing Up
  • Client Expectations

This training is provided in an environment that is based on practical knowledge and taught by professionals who hold senior management positions at various companies throughout the industry.

This course is appropriate for anyone new to a management role or employees with at least two year's experience seeking to move up to a management role. The skills learned in this course are applicable to employees of any company. Completion of AdU is not required prior to enrollment in AdU Grad.


Ad360

Ad360 classes are one-off courses designed to cover niche topics across a variety of disciplines within marketing and advertising. They typically attract a focused audience of less than 100 attendees and allow for an open dialogue between speakers and attendees.

Past topics have included:

  • The World of Search
  • Brands and Bands
  • Strategy and the Creative Process
  • Sales Best Practices
  • The New Role of Production

Ad360 classes are purposefully priced inexpensively ($10 for members) to remain accessible to junior-level employees, but are appropriate for anyone interested in the topic.


Talent 101

Talent 101 is a basic training course for anyone who has responsibility in the areas of talent payments, production or cost control and for the interpretation of Union contracts such as SAG, AFTRA, AFM, ACTRA and UDA.

These seminars provide the basic knowledge needed to enable the administrators and interpreters of the various commercial talent contracts to perform more accurately and efficiently.

Talent 101 is hosted by Talent Partners and classes are free to attend for thinkLA members.


UCLA Extension Program

thinkLA has partnered with UCLA to provided discounts to thinkLA member on selected Extension classes.


Career Day

Held in October each year this 2-day event, gives students a sneak peek in to the world of advertising. Day one students have the opportunity to visit 2 ad/media agencies and learn about the different departments in an agency. The second day students attend and hear from speakers from each department and learn the day to day aspects of an agency and how each department relates to each other.


Presentation Skills Boot Camp

Presentation Skills Boot Camp is a professional development course offered by thinkLA, specifically for the marketing industry. The course is taught by Tim Hart, an expert in public speaking and presentation skills training with over 30 years of marketing and advertising experience.

Students learn how to conquer their fears of public speaking and how to present confidently in a variety of situations, including internally to their peers and externally to their clients.

Key course takeaways include:

  • Fundamental elements of presenting
  • Developing personal presentation skills
  • Preparing the presentation
  • Four specific presentation styles
  • PowerPoint Do's and Don'ts
  • Q&A procedures

This bootcamp consists of four (4) 2-hour sessions. Content is cumulative and attendance is mandatory at all four sessions to complete the course. Due to the interactive nature of this boot camp, class size is limited to 20 students.


Digital 101

Digital 101 provides a high-level overview of the digital media landscape and is designed for traditional advertisers and marketers new to digital.

Topics include:

  • State of Media and Trends
  • Online Media and Marketing Extensions
  • Why Online?
  • Online Universe and Behaviors
  • Important Terms and Terminology
  • Media Property Types

The course concludes with recommendations for online resources, including references for trade material and where to locate additional information on digital terminology.
